Countdown – half a year to go

We have less than half a year until our world tour. Where to celebrate this accordingly?

Right. On vacation.

So we packed our bags and flew to Madeira, a cute little Island, which is part of Portugal.
You notice this right away as well, as the boardwalks are so slim you can seldom walk next to each other as two people.

But it is very sunny and warm, partly when you go hiking a little to warm. But we don’t want to complain, everything is better than the cold and rainy germany.

Our base is located in Funchal, very pretty there. In two days we have unfortunately already seen all we wanted to see. We went up with the cable car and bolted down via some kind of street sled.

We went to the Docks and to the outskirts. We walked through numerous parks and even (although this was not Björns highlight) through a botanical garden.

Actually we wanted to hike along a Levada (water-supply river) to a waterfall, but unfortunately one year ago the whole surrounding part was burned to the ground, which is why the trek was blocked.

On our third day we did not want to walk the outskirts a fifth time, so we decided to travel to the other side of the island for about 4 euros. Our destination – Sao Vicente.

The bus ride alone was a highlight because of the adrenalin rush. The serpentines were so high up that you almost peed your pants when looking down. The view was astounding nontheless.

After arriving in Sao Vicente we first visited the Caves which were created through volcanic activities. The Caves were breathtaking, the non-optional tour with museum and 3D movie afterwards, not so much.

Then we enjoyed a beer on the beach and built the always trendy Zen stone tower.

After a few mackerels and a visit of the old part of town and the excursion was completed successfully.

Now we are back in Funchal and are looking forward on that else we will experience.
